AMERICAN FOOTBALL: 1651. ‘AMERICAN FOOTBALL AT THE CRYSTAL PALACE: - CHARGING A PASSAGE FOR THE MAN WITH THE BALL’.Between eight and ten thousand spectators assembled last week at the Crystal Palace to witness a game of American football between the crews of the battleships Idaho and Vermont, dressed in their full war-paint of quilted knickerbockers and shirts and padded caps, ear-guards and nose-guards. North American football has the reputation of being more dangerous than the South America revolution! - on the very day this game took place a boy was killed in a match at Winsted, Connecticut - but,
happlily, the Crystal Palace match passed off without a mishap, the Idaho team winning by 19 points to nil. American football is more like Rugby than Association football, but forward passes are allowed, and there are only eleven players on each side. The Graphic 1910 [24683] Recently coloured engraving, 30 x 24
cms. Drawn by Ernest Prater. £120
