With extended West Coast to the straits between Russia and America and a large inland lake north of Quivira named ‘The Great Lake of Thongo or Thoya’. California is shown as a large island. Plan of the tunnel under the Thames between Rotherhithe and Wapping, showing proposed tunnelling methods, a view of the interior, a large sectional view, and a map of the roads connecting with the tunnel. Anonymous German ca. 1830 [17635] 21 x 34 cm. The tunnel was projected and built by Brunel and opened in the 1830’s. Originally a foot tunnel, part of it collapsed and the money was raised to repair it by a banquet held in the tunnel. It became part of the rail network, the East London line, and was then closed for a long time for re-furbishment. It opened again on 25th March 1998. SOLD

Published by The Burlington and Missouri-River Railroad Company ca. 1860 [17157] Oblong 4to (14 x 25 cm), original printed pink covers. This booklet was apparently published by the British Offices of the Burlington and Missouri-River Railroad Company to attract farmers from Britain to settle in Iowa and Nebraska. After a fifteen days journey (from Liverpool) they were offered farm land for sale on ten year’s credit, and six per cent interest after that. - The booklet was published either with a map of the United States at one shilling, without the map at sixpence (this copy), or the map was to be had separately for sixpence, too.
