Published by Reinier and Josua Ottens from the plate designed by Hugo Allard ca. 1725 [22098] 46 x 54 cm. Cartouche and panorama uncoloured, the map in full original colour. Blank on verso. Based on the Visscher map ‘Novi Belgii...’, but with a very different cartouche and the new panorama of New York. This Ottens edition represents the scarce 7th state of the Allard map recorded by Burden (#373), however it is later and not as scarce as the Allard edition. - The Dutch Ottens firm of publishers assembled their atlases to order, the maps were often published separately like this copy, which was included in the private collection of a European aristocratic family.

This map was originally engraved by C.S.Williams for Tanners Universal Atlas of 1845. The rights were then sold to Samual Mitchell who in turn sold the rights to Thomas Cowperthwait in 1849. The rare first edition of Cowperthwait’s atlas included this earlier map. Two years later, the map was redrawn for the second edition.
